Don Carver Flaugh

Memorial services for Cortez resident Don Carver Flaugh will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the Lifeway Baptist Church in Cortez. Pastor Andy Johnson will be officiating. Interment is to follow at the Cortez Cemetery.

Don passed away at the age of 61 on Jan. 19, 2012 in Albuquerque, N.M., with his family by his side. He was born March 16, 1950 to Herbert Flaugh and Willma (Rowe) Flaugh in Durango.

Don is a lifelong resident of Cortez. He grew up with his older sister, Sandy and twin brother, Von and graduated from Cortez High School in 1968. Don, like his father, had a passion for construction and went to work for his father’s company, Flaugh Construction Co. Inc., after high school. He then worked for Southwest Contracting for a short time before being transferred to Weeminuche Construction Authority. During his 23 years at Weeminuche as Building Division Manager, he managed many local projects, such as the new corrections center, the hospital remodel, and the new Four Corners Monument, of which he was proud.

During his younger years, Don enjoyed playing golf and even made a hole-in-one at the then Cortez Municipal Golf Course as a teenager.

In 1991 he married Rheba Davies (deceased) and they enjoyed 15 years together. During their marriage, they spent time traveling to Mexico, Florida and other tropical destinations.

He enjoyed fishing at the Flaugh family cabin, reading novels, and watching his favorite team, the Denver Broncos.

Surviving Don are his children, Keegan (Melissa) Flaugh of Littleton, Colo.; Erin (Rodney) Davidson of Florence, Colo.; Shannon (Bart) Thol of Honesdale, Penn.; his sister, Sandy Flaugh Clark of Cortez; his twin brother, Von Flaugh of Cortez; his stepdaughters, Julie Long of Cortez and Rachell Chavarie of Belgrade, Maine; his grandchildren, Daelyn Nace; Aidan, Caitlyn, Evan and Brendan Flaugh; Hailee, Harley and Hunter Davidson; and Ivan Thol; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Don in death were his parents; wife, Rheba; and brother-in-law, Bruce Clark.
