Suspects nabbed in dispensary robbery

Two suspects are in custody after a reported armed robbery of a Cortez Medical Marijuana Center last week, according to a representative of the Cortez Police Department.

True Earth Medicine, located at 302 North Broadway in Cortez, was reportedly robbed at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday by two suspects.

Jennifer Klein, an employee at the center, said two masked suspects with guns came in, held her at gunpoint, taking money, product and whatever they could get their hands on.

The larger of the two suspects jumped over the counter, and ordered her to her knees, she said.

“Honestly, in the video, you’ll see me smiling for the first minute and a half, I thought it was a joke,” Klein said.

The men then gave Klein a rope and asked her to tie herself up, she said, which she was unable to do.

“I was really scared,” she said. “The big one was yelling. I didn’t know what to do.”

Despite being tied up by the suspects, Klein said she was able to call police on her mobile phone.

Klein said she had never worked at a medical marijuana dispensary before.

“It makes it look bad for the industry that’s trying to do something good for the people,” she said.

Brandon James Rhodes, 31, and Luis Thomas White, 30, are being held as suspects in the case on $75,000 and $100,000 bonds respectively. They await advisement of charges, set for 2:30 p.m. Monday.
