Claude Robert Holgate
Claude Robert Holgate passed away on Aug. 18, 2012. He was 76 years old. He married Elma Allene (Elmy) Spaulding on June 20, 1954, just before he left to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Upon discharge from the Air Force he returned home to Carbondale where he worked as a truck driver, welder, mechanic and finally as a small business owner with the purchase of Crystal Saw Service in Carbondale, which he grew into the top seller of outdoor power equipment in three surrounding states. He sold this business in 1999 and moved to Cortez to pursue his passion for fishing and being outdoors, but still remained an active small business owner with the purchase of a car wash on Main Street in Cortez and then started Holgate’s Tools and Equipment with the help of his son, Ted.
Claude is survived by his wife Allene; his children, Ted Holgate (Ruth), Terry Stacey (Greg), Jim Holgate (Willa), and Jacqueline Holgate (Michael Feigenbaum); his mother, Blanche Holgate; his brother, Kenny Holgate; his two sisters, Nonie Hoffman and Jan Clarke; and his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Clifton Hall, 126 2nd Street in Clifton, Colo. at 11 a.m.
Claude will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. There will be no wrench turned or fish caught that will not be in his honor.
