Miguel Mike Archibeque
Graveside inurnment services for lifelong area resident Miguel “Mike” Archibeque will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 at Cortez Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75.
Miguel “Mike” Archibeque was born on Sept. 17, 1927 in Mancos, the son of John and Placida (Espinoza) Archibeque. He passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 85.
Mike was a WWII Army veteran and he was very proud of his service to our country. On Oct. 25, 1947 Mike married Maria Carmelita Gallegos in Cortez. He worked hard as the owner of Mike’s Painting and Drywall. Mike enjoyed the outdoors, most especially fishing, hunting, camping and yard work. He also loved woodworking and painting.
Surviving Mike are his wife, Carmelita of Cortez; his daughters, Brenda Maez and husband Bennie of Cortez and Marina Fresquez and husband Emmett of Cortez; and his seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mike also leaves behind his siblings, Ben Archibeque and wife Florence of Mancos, Johnny Archibeque and wife Patsy of Cortez, Tony Martinez and wife Martha of Cortez, Priscilla Gallegos of Salt Lake City, Utah, Margaret Estrada and husband Arthur of Salt Lake City, Esther Johnson and husband Kim of Salt Lake City, Virginia Schafer and husband John of Pennsylvania, Joann Archibeque of San Jose, Calif., and Lea Sanchez and husband Willie of Cortez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John and Placida Archibeque; his sons, Gene and Robert Archibeque; his brothers, Fred, Ralph, and Henry Archibeque; his sister, Marcella Espinoza; and his brother-in-law, Ben Gallegos.
