Final campaign financial reports released for candidates
The latest campaign finance reports for candidates running for public office as well as committees seeking passages of bonds and other issues have been released by the Colorado Secretary of State.
Montezuma County Commissioner District 3 candidate Greg Kemp made a late but unsuccessful push to win this seat.
According to the campaign financial reports, Kemp donated $5,000 to his own campaign on Oct. 13 and donated another $500 to himself on Oct. 25, bringing his donation total to $8,175 for the entire campaign.
A good percentage of Kemp’s expenditures were for the fliers he sent through the U.S. Postal Service. The financial reports revealed he spent a little more than $1,700 to the U.S. Postal Service, and another $880 was paid to Winton Radio Broadcasting.
Dewayne Findley, the Republican District 3 candidate who was defeated by unaffiliated candidate Larry Don Suckla did not report any campaign contributions in the three weeks leading up to the Nov. 6 election, according to the records from the Colorado Secretary of State.
Findley had one expenditure in this time frame — $590 to American General Media for radio advertising.
Suckla, who won the District 3 seat, raised $1,200 in the final weeks leading up to Election Day.
Suckla donated $950 of his own money to his campaign and Tanner Flying Service on Oct. 16 donated another $250.
Suckla also spent $3,733 to the Cortez Journal and another $994 to Winton Radio Broadcasting for advertising in the last three weeks of the campaign.
The Cortez 21st Century High School Committee raised another $150 in the final three weeks of the campaign with $100 coming from former Montezuma-Cortez School District Re-1 Interim Superintendent Mary Rubadeau, who now works as a consultant for the district.
In the final three weeks of the campaign the committee spent $2,144 in advertising to the Cortez Journal and another $630 was paid to the Four Corners Free Press.
The committee, which helped ballot issue 3B pass, launched a vigorous campaign, raising nearly $22,000.
