Lifelong resident Frances C. Higgins died on Nov. 25, 2012 at Vista Grande Inn in Cortez. She was born on Nov. 10, 1912 in Hawley, Texas to J.E. and Sarah J. Cothern. In 1933, Frances married David H. Higgins in Cortez where they farmed most of their lives.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Janice Stone and husband Gerald of Cortez, Venita Joseph and husband Mike of Fruita, Colo., and Iris Johnson and husband Derrill of Cortez; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
