Paul Christian Voit
Paul Christian Voit, 46, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, in Durango. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Hood Mortuary. Pastor Craig Paschal of the First United Methodist Church in Mancos will officiate.
Paul was born April 19, 1966, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Allen and Dorothy Voit. He grew up and attended school in Menomonee Falls, Wis. He lived in the greater Milwaukee area until he moved to Colorado approximately eight years ago.
Paul worked in the family business, a bar and reception hall in Menomonee Falls named the Orchard Inn. He worked at Jack’s Tobacco (cigar shop) in Wisconsin. Locally, Paul worked for the Durango Smoke Shop, Home Depot, and most recently, at Walgreens, where he excelled in his customer relations and service friendships.
He very much enjoyed his Colorado home and the outdoors, as well as having a passion for road cycling and touring, having ridden in many distance fundraisers and local tours. Paul was a cigar aficionado. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Nascar fan — his favorite racer is Jeff Gordon — as well as a follower of hockey and soccer.
Paul was dedicated to his work, no matter where that might be. He loved his customers and fellow employees. He belonged to the BPO Elks in his hometown in Wisconsin.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessalyn Bay-Voit of Mancos; his mother, Dorothy Voit of West Bend, Wis.; siblings, Ellen Amado and husband Manoel of Bristow, Va., David Voit of West Bend, Andy Voit and wife Linda of Boscobel, Wis., and Betsy Spizar of Grafton, Wis.; nieces and nephews, Mia, Ali, Kai, Tori, Nichole, Amy, Katie, Megan and Noah; former spouse, Chyrise Bay of Mancos; his partner, Cheri Jones of Hermosa, and her two sons, Mathew Jones and Micheal Thompson; and by his half-siblings, Mike Voit, Tom Voit, and Patty Voit, all of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Voit.
