Mancos High School graduate Melissa Johnson, pictured here with her kids, is a history teacher at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is presenting at two conferences in March. The first was in Denver with the Library of Congress. The second presentation will represent Coronado with other area schools at the National Council for history Education in Richmond, Va. She is presenting digital storytelling after working with the Teaching American History grant for many years. Johnson also taught in Mancos after graduation in 1989, and was mentored at Fort Lewis College in Durango by Dr. Duane Smith and Dr. John Kessell. "It is all because of the great experiences I had in Mancos and Durango with the FLC history department and working on the train!," she said. Johnson is the daughter of Harold and Georgette Welage of Mancos.
