Marshal leaves for police chief position

Marshal Bill Knauer is leaving Mancos and is going to Fortville, Ind. as police chief. "It's with a heavy heart that I leave, but it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up," he said. He will be closer to friends and family there, and especially his grandkids.

Effective March 19, John Cox will be the Mancos Marshal. He and Deputy Sean Kiley will make sure that things continue smoothly as before.

"I feel very confident in his abilities," said Knauer. "He will hire a new deputy, but he will make sure that he gets the right person for the job."

Knauer went on to express his appreciation for the town staff, the partnerships with the surrounding agencies and the citizens of Mancos.

"I have truly enjoyed my time here in Mancos," he said. "I feel like we have turned things around and I appreciate everyone's cooperation."
