Toney Bert ‘Sonny’ Beaver Jr.

Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Toney Bert “Sonny” Beaver Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.

Visitation has been scheduled for Monday, April 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel.

Sonny was born April 27, 1939, in Eminence, Mo. the son of Toney B. Beaver Sr. and Ollie (Church) Beaver. He passed away at his home on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the age of 73.

Sonny married Gracie Dolores Fennell on June 4, 1956, in Aztec, N.M. To this union, two daughters, Debbie and Rhonda and a son, Clinton were born. Sonny worked at Comfort Air Mechanical, Inc. for 21 years as the head of Custom Sheet Metal. In his free time, Sonny built wooden toy cars for needy children giving many away each year at Christmas time. He also gave the toys to organizations that help children in need. Slavens donated to Sonny the ends from the trusses they build to make the toys. Comfort Air donated hardware for the toys. He was a very generous and giving man. Sonny also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving Sonny are his wife, Gracie Beaver of Cortez; daughters, Debbie Dutton, and husband, Rick of Collinsville, Okla.; and Rhonda Cornelius and husband, Donnie of Sallisaw, Okla.; son, Clinton Beaver and wife, Tina of Bayfield, Colo.; grandchildren, Eric, Ryan, Josh, Jason, Melissa, Jeremy, Emilee, Jake, Kelsey, Courtney, Daniel and Keegan; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Beaver of Cortez; and sister, Marium Pierce of Broken Arrow, Okla. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Toney Beaver Sr. and Ollie Beaver; and sisters, Erma Buffington, Melbalene Morris, and Juanita Lowe.
