Weldon E. Richardson
Weldon E. Richardson, former resident of Cortez, passed from this life on May 16, 2013, at the age of 94.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1918, in east Texas. Very shortly thereafter, his family relocated to west Texas, where he was raised on a farm. On his twenty-first birthday, he married Frances M. Jones. He and Frances lived in Texas and later in Pueblo, Colo. In 1946, they relocated to Jacksonville, Texas, where he attended college at Jacksonville Baptist College.
After serving churches in Texas, Nebraska and Washington, the family moved to Cortez, where he was pastor of the Baptist Chapel. He served here for more than 25 years. From that church at least two other churches got their initial starts or support. He retired in 1989, yet he continued to preach and teach in various localities in the western portion of Texas.
He and his wife, Frances, who preceded him in death, had relocated to the Sherman, Texas, area to be near their eldest son, Radford.
He is survived by son Kelton F. Richardson and wife Elaine of Cortez, as well as two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother and one sister.
Memorial services will be conducted in Sherman, Texas.
