Memorial activities to be held Monday

Events begin at 6 a.m.

Ute Mountain American Legion Post 75 invites the public to join in observing Memorial Day at several events to be held on Monday, May 27:

6 a.m., Cortez Cemetery: Legion Honor Guard, dedication, rifle-team salute, rendering of taps, and the playing of bagpipes by Jim Lynch.

7 a.m., American Legion Hall, 320 N. Harrison: Honor Guard ceremony followed by breakfast for veterans, their families and the public. All donations collected for breakfast will go to the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans Assistance and Relief Fund.

9:30 a.m., Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside: Military honors by the Honor Guard, including the dropping of a wreath into the river in tribute to those lost at sea.

11 a.m., Rico Cemetery: Honor Guard ceremony.

These events and ceremonies have been an annual tradition of Ute Mountain American Legion Post 75 and the Ladies Auxiliary for more than 60 years.
