Culvert fix starts north of Lebanon Road

On Monday, Sept. 16, The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a project on to replace a corroded steel culvert under U.S. Highway 491 just north of Cortez. The work will involve replacement of the steel culvert with a concrete pipe, necessitating a cut in the highway and lane closures.

Work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Motorists will encounter single-lane alternative traffic near mile marker 57, 24 hours a day, likely directed by flaggers during the day and a signal at night, until the highway cut is closed. Then drivers can expect daytime single-lane alternating traffic until the project is completed in October.

The work was contracted to D & L Construction of Cortez for $298,423. It will improve drainage and highway stability and condition by replacing a 1974 culvert pipe with new concrete.
