Marie Elizabeth Messner
Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Marie Elizabeth Messner will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
Marie was born Sept. 24, 1946, in Saint Paul, Minn., the daughter of Arthur Edward and Clara Ruth (Paasche) Shanahan. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the age of 66.
Marie graduated from Anoka High School in Anoka, Minn., in 1964 and graduated with her bachelor degree from Fort Lewis College in 1990. Marie was a certified public accountant in private practice in the area for nearly 20 years. She was licensed in Colorado in 1992, New Mexico in 1993, and Arizona in 2004 and founded Messner and Associates in 2008. Marie was a member of several organizations including the Certified Public Accountant Societies for each of the three states in which she was licensed, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and she became a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts in 2003. She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. In Marie’s free time, she enjoyed playing bridge and loved to travel especially aboard cruise ships.
Surviving Marie are her husband, Bob Harrah of Cortez; her son, Adam Messner of Palm Springs, Calif.; and her daughter, Darla Harrah of Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
