Support Fire Protection District mill-levy increase
We strongly support the upcoming mill-levy proposal that will not only allow our community to have more career professional firefighters but consequently have less reliance on the volunteer professional firefighters.
How can the residents living within the Cortez Fire Protection District afford not to support the men and women who “dedicate our efforts to the safety and well-being of our residents, our community and the environment.”
If you are a business owner or involved in developing opportunities for new businesses then your support should be a “no brainer.” Insurance rates and loans are often tied to the level and expertise of firefighting response.
If you are an educator or parent then the safety teams and education components of the district should garner your support.
If your interest is the environment and outdoor adventure then the district is the first responder for hazardous cleanup and keeping our outdoor activities safe and available.
If you live in the county at the far reaches of medical response then certainly the medical responsibilities of the district are worth the small increase in property taxes.
My husband and I are both on fixed military retirement incomes and strongly support this increase in property taxes. We ask that you cast your mail-in ballot for this initiative.
