4-H Day will be held at fairgrounds Nov. 2
The second annual 4-H Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2, at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 Highway 160 in Cortez.
Experience some of the projects offered by 4-H. The family event, will include cake decorating, ceramics, rocket launch, scrapbooking, how to shoot a bow, felting and various animal projects. Concessions also are available.
4-H Clubs in Montezuma County are taking member and adult volunteer enrollment through December for the 2014 program year. You can enroll online at: https://colorado.4honline.com or at 4-H Day.

Economic district announces new board officers
The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado’s board of directors have elected officers for their next year. Dan Fernandez will be chairman; Willy Tookey, vice chairman; Robert Kunkel, secretary; and Laurie Sigillito, treasurer.
Fernandez is a retired Colorado State University Extension agent who resides in Dolores County. Tookey is the administrator of San Juan County. Kunkel is the business development manager with the city of Durango, and Sigillito is the owner of FAST SIGNS Durango and FASTFORWARD Media.
Region 9 is a public-private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic development efforts in five Colorado counties in Southwest Colorado.
The Region 9 board of directors is comprised of representatives from the 17 local governmental jurisdictions and nine members from the private sector.

McPhee Marina Road to be closed in November
The McPhee Marina Road, Forest Service Road 271, will be closed from Friday, Nov. 1, through Saturday, Nov. 30, to allow for construction work.
The San Juan National Forest is replacing the toilet system to reduce energy use, maintenance costs and eliminate environmental hazards to the public and reservoir.
The closure is necessary to protect public safety because construction will include heavy equipment, demolition work and hauling on the McPhee Marina Road.
It will reopen Dec. 1, conditions permitting.
Workshop aims to help disabled farmers, ranchers
Colorado AgrAbility will host a free workshop Nov. 19, at the Southwest Colorado Community College.
The workshop, “AgrAbility Farm/Ranch Adaptations & Financial Resources,” will take place 9 a.m. to noon and includes lunch for those who pre-register at least one week before the workshop. It will be held in the ITC building of SCCC, 33057 U.S. 160 in Mancos.
Colorado State University Extension and Goodwill Industries of Denver works with the Colorado AgrAbility Project to provide disability workshops, on-site evaluations, resource information, equipment modification and assistive technology. The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture provides funding for the Colorado AgrAbility Project.
