Dr. Everett Lawson

Dr. Everett Lawson, a longtime Cortez resident, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Paradise, Cal. He and his wife, Virginia, had moved in September to northern California to be closer to family. Everett was having serious health problems this past year.

The Lawson’s came to Cortez in 1957 after completing dentistry at Loma Linda University. Everett’s primary interest settling in Cortez was the mission work so needed among the Navajo people. For many years, he worked four days a month at the Monument Valley Mission Dental Clinic and the family developed many friendships among the Navajo.

Everett also had significant attraction to the mountains, and was happy to be sneaking a fishing line among the willows of a mountain stream, or 4-wheeling up jeep trails.

Dr. Lawson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia, and two children, his son, Kenneth and wife, Cindy and their two children Casey and Lindsey, and his daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Reed Pendleton.

The family plans to have a celebration of life in the spring in Cortez.

Virginia plans to continue to reside in Paradise, Calif. Her address there is 594 Montgomery Place, Paradise, Calif., 95969.
