Pueblo to Pueblo Run/Bike Event

Registration is open for the 20th Annual Pueblo to Pueblo Run/ Bike Event, April 26, by visiting the Center’s website

This year’s event features a half marathon run, a 5K run/walk and a 50-mile bike event.

The Pueblo to Pueblo Run symbolizes ancient and historical runs between communities and is a fundraiser for the Cortez Cultural Center. The Center also seeks health conscious organizations to sponsor the event. Contact the Center at 565-1151.

Cortez Cultural Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization. The Center’s mission is to provide a forum for the community’s educational, cultural, artistic and scientific interests.

Cortez Cultural Center’s call to artists

Cortez Cultural Center is seeking “bird art” for a show in the Gallery prior to and during the 10th annual Ute Mountain Mesa Verde Birding Festival. Art in any medium is welcome.

Pieces need to be delivered to the gallery on April 18, 2014 and picked up on May 12, 2014, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 25 N. Market St. Cortez, CO.

Opening reception will be held on April 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. with other receptions for birding festival participants held during the festival, May 7-11.

Cortez Library educates about seeds

The public is invited on March 1 at 10 a.m. at the Cortez Public Library meeting room to hear more about seeds and donate extra seeds you may have so others may share in the joy of growing seeds.

Christian Women plan mother-daughter tea

Christian Women’s Celebrations invite everyone to a mother and daughter Royal Teatime Banquet on Feb. 15 at noon at the Elks.

Party dresses will be modeled by princesses under 18. Songs will be presented by Jewel Most. Speaker Princess Paula Podgornoff will present a royal story, Once Upon A Time.

Cost is $14.50 per person and includes room fee, program, meal, drink, dessert and tip.

Ranger district plans pile burns

The Dolores Ranger District plans to burn slash piles left over from fuels reduction projects, beginning Feb. 4, on the San Juan National Forest.

Firefighters will ignite about 300 piles located off FS Road No. 559 about seven miles north of Mancos in the Millwood area and about 30 piles off FS Road No. 504 east of Dove Creek in the Doe Canyon area.

Operations will continue through the week, weather permitting, from mid-mornings to mid-afternoons for optimum smoke dispersal.

No road or trail closures are expected.
