Vernon Frederick Root

Vernon Frederick Root was born Jan. 22, 1919 in Palmyra, Nebraska to John and Kathryn (Seeman) Root.

He attended school in Eagle, Nebraska and graduated in 1936. He also attended one year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

He married Mary Jayne Strong of Winnebago, Nebraska on June 8, 1940.

After Mary's death in April of 1992 he remarried Emma Ruth Houser of Loveland, Colorado in November 1992. Vern's career began with dairy farming in Nebraska, and advanced to aircraft construction at the Lockheed Airplant in California during WWII.

After the war he worked for Texaco in Oklahoma and was later transfered to Cortez Colorado in 1959 and worked as a oil field technician.

The Root family moved to Ft Collins in 1966. He worked for the Woodward Governor Company in Ft Collins as Test Stand Supervisor until his retirement in 1983.

Vern was an ambitious, hardworking, self-taught man, learning what he needed for advancement in his careers.

He lived in seven states, and claimed to have visited all 50 states. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, dominos, woodworking, reading, and traveling.

He was a "family man," and enjoyed involving his family in his many activities. He especially loved the cabin that he and Mary built in Red Feather Lakes and spending the winter at their property in Arizona.

Vernon is survived by his wife Ruth Houser Root of Loveland, Co and his children Sandy Meek, of Loveland, Co, Judy Smith (Michael), of Denver, Co, Marcia Schauermann (John), of Ft Collins, Co, and John Root (Joan), of Commerce City, Co ; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jayne, and his great-grandson Brandon Michael-Morris Howell on 9-18-92.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Derby Hill Baptist Church in Loveland. Cremation has been completed. Inurnment will take place at Roselawn Cemetery in Ft. Collins at a later date.
