Cortez Cultural Center hosts prose meeting

Gather your draft manuscripts, lyrics, melodies — or just good intentions.

Convene with published prose and song writers in a frank, welcoming atmosphere, along with others like you wanting published results. Hear how they made it happen. Listen to them describe processes that worked for them. Learn from their efforts, and agonies. Raise your questions. Compare your difficulties. Consider solutions that could work for you.

Novelist John Wright, who published La Grulla – recently awarded Finalist in Best First Novel category by the Western Writers of America – will hold forth on publishing prose.

Singer-songwriter Marilyn Kroeker, who just released another CD, Time Tested, of her original compositions, will discuss her songwriting experience and results.

Join us on Wednesday, April 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Cortez Cultural Center 25 N. Market St. Information: 970-565-1151.

Highway 145 project starts Monday

The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced it will start a road improvement project Monday, March 31, on SH 145.

The $5.7 million project will resurface over nine miles of roadway from Cortez to the Dolores River Bridge.

Transportation officials said the project would also include drainage improvements, rehabilitating the bridge deck, correcting the curve at CR P and installing ADA ramps at sidewalks in Cortez.

Skanska Civil USA West Rocky Mountain District, Inc. received the construction bid.

Crews are expected to start work at the Dolores River Bridge on Monday, and motorists can expect alternating single-lane traffic. The total project is set for completion by mid-August.
