Funeral services for lifelong area resident Hazel Frank will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.
Hazel was born November 17, 1931 in Teec Nos Pos, Ariz. She passed away at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M. on Friday, April 4, 2014. Hazel was 82 years old.
Raised by Frank and Maggie Todacheenie, Hazel learned many of the traditional Navajo ways. She was an accomplished weaver, dyeing and spinning her own wool. With many varied talents Hazel was a good seamstress, marksman, and enjoyed canning peaches. She loved riding horses, and traveling.
Surviving Hazel are her husband, Joe Frank Sr. of Shiprock, N.M.; children, Nita Frank of Dallas, Tex., Samuel Frank and wife, Irene of Glendale, Ariz., Willie Frank and wife, Sara of Kayenta, Ariz., Bernice Frank of Kirtland, N.M., Helena Frank of Albuquerque, N.M., Arlene Frank-Brown and husband, Bruce of Valley Springs, Calif., and Joe Frank Jr. of Denver, Colo. and significant other, Susan Benally of Teec Nos Pos, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and her sister, Nellie Sam of Dallas, Tex. Hazel was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Frank and Maggie Todacheenie; and her brother, Ned Mark.
