Jessie Root House

Funeral services for lifelong Towaoc resident Jessie Root House will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with Apostle Wallace Begay officiating. Interment will follow at Towaoc Cemetery.

Visitation has been scheduled for Monday, May 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the chapel.

Jessie was born June 2, 1925 in Towaoc the daughter of Tom Root Sr. and Alberta Bluebird Deer. She passed away at her home on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the age of 88.

Jessie loved to attend Pow Wows, the Sundance and Beardance. She was very talented and loved using her hands to make her own dresses for the dances. Jessie also made cradleboards and beadwork for her family and friends.

She loved puzzles as well. Jessie attended “The Chapel” for many years.

Surviving Jessie are her husband of 65 years, Thomas House Sr. of Towaoc; children, Jack House and wife, Carol, Lorna House, Bev House, Loma House, Blair R. House Sr. and wife, Darlene, Thomas House Jr. and wife, Fernanda, and Kevin House and wife, Charlotte all of Towaoc; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; her niece, Genevieve Root Thompson of Ignacio; and her nephew, Wilbert Root Sr. of Towaoc. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Root Sr. and Alberta Deer; son, Alvin Root; grandmother, Alice Deer who was the sister of Chief Ignacio; brothers, Tom Root Jr., James Root, and Hugh Root; and niece, Virginia Root.
