Raymond Scott Gerlach
Raymond Scott Gerlach, 44, of Sterling, died May 21, 2014, in an auto accident outside of Briggsdale.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2014, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling with the family in attendance 4-6 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 513 N. 7th Ave., in Sterling. Graveside services will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials in Mr. Gerlach’s honor may be sent in care of Boondock’s Army Surplus, 324 N. 4th St. In Sterling, Colo. 80751.
Raymond “Scott” was born in Grand Junction on Jan. 18, 1970, to Raymond and Janet (Maley) Gerlach and grew up in Cortez. He graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 1988, Northeastern Junior College in 1991 with an Associate’s in Vocational Agriculture Education, and Colorado State University in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in applied science – Vocational Agriculture Education.
Scott married the love of his life Debbie Lipe on Dec. 27, 1988, in Cortez. They made their home in Sterling, where they raised r five children – Wayne, Will, Justin, Amber, and Austin. He was a wonderful husband, father and very proud grandpa to his 2-year-old granddaughter, Remington.
Mr. Gerlach was a senior support engineer at Sybase, a business software company, and loved working at the theater as a “hobby.” He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated hours to service.
Scott lived and breathed Boy Scouts for over 20 years, as a Scout and then as a leader. He touched the lives of hundreds in his scouting family. He took up marathon running, and completed several marathons since 2012.
In the past year, he joined the Logan County Sheriff’s Posse and became certified as an EMT.
Scott was known for his quick smile, dedicated work ethic and playing hard. He was a patriot, proud American and military supporter.
Scott is survived by his wife Debbie, sons Wayne and wife Laci, Granddaughter Remington, Justin, and Austin, daughter Amber all of Sterling, son Will and wife Cait, father Raymond and wife Anna, brother Eric and wife Nena, sister Heidi and husband Mike all of Fort Collins, brother Ken and wife Michelle of Windsor, many nieces, nephews and extended family and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Janet Gerlach, grandmothers Lois Gerlach and Joan Maley, grandfather Leo Maley and uncle Denny Gerlach.
