Celestino Joe Turrietta left this world on Saturday, July 5, 2014, after a short illness at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. He left us all with wonderful memories. He was “CJ” to friends and neighbors, “Tino” to close friends and family members and “Celestino” to businesses and professionals. He always had a quick step and a smile. He was a supportive and helpful friend and brother to everyone he met. He liked giving prayers and novinas for people in trouble. He loved going to the casinos and listening to music – especially Maraiachi. He enjoyed decorating his apartment with guitars and items he purchased while traveling in the New York City area. He appreciated keeping up with his friends in Albuquerque.

He left behind his sister Rose Romero, his niece Jennifer Romero, his nephew Jason and his wife Heather Romero from Cortez. In Albuquerque, he left his brother Ladiz and his wife Mary Turrietta, his sister Susan and her husband Robert Santiago and numerous nieces and nephews. In San Diego, he left his brother Allan Turrietta and his friend Julie Santiago.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pilar and Ladiz Turrietta and his brothers Nick Turrietta and Steve Turrietta.

The Memorial Service took place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. and the graveside service followed at 10 a.m. with a Mariachi band. A memorial potluck remembrance was held at Rose’s home in Cortez on Thursday, July 10, 2014.
