Cortez police officer Ryan Carter was arrested Friday on sex charges involving a minor. He remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

In a 110-word statement, Cortez Patrol Lt. Andy Brock said Ryan was arrested on charges of sexual contact on a minor by a person in a position of trust, a class 3 felony, about 9 p.m. on Friday, July 11.

According to Brock, the Montezuma County Sheriffs Office conducted a cursory interview on July 10, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was called to assist.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” said Brock.
