School News: Elementary PTA rolls out Spirit Sticks

Maxwell

This year, the Dolores Elementary School PTA is promoting a Spirit Stick program.

Students were given a Dolores Elementary Bears backpack fob when they registered for school. Teachers purchased sticks to hand out for students to go on their fobs. Spirit Sticks will help us celebrate special events and to reward positive behavior.

Students also will have the opportunity to purchase decorative sticks for collecting.

This is just one of the many ways our PTA supports our school culture, said Elementary School Principal Sherri Maxwell.

Watch Dogs up and running

The Dolores Elementary Watch Dog program is up and running. Watch Dogs provide dads, grandfathers, uncles and other male role models a chance to spend the day in school learning about all things at Dolores Elementary School.

If you are interested in becoming a Watch Dog, call 882-4688. Students love having their fathers spend the day with them at the school and are always thrilled when they take part in this program. The dads also seem really happy to get a glimpse into the elementary world too.

Construction going well

Dolores School District Superintendent Scott Cooper reported that construction at the schools is still going well. The new classrooms in the elementary wing are just waiting for cabinets to be delivered and then installed. I am sure teachers are chomping at the bit to move in. Cooper said that might not happen until the end of September.

Preschool has openings

The Teddy Bear Preschool has room for more students this year. This preschool is a 3-Star Qualistar rated preschool and is looking to get a top rating by the National Association for the Education of Young Children this year. This distinction is only awarded to about 3 percent of preschools across the nation.

If you are interested in enrolling your 3- to 5-year-old call 882-7277.

The preschool,1550 Hillside Ave.. offers all-day programs.
