Durango resident Susan Lynn Lobdell-Ramirez died after a long battle with pallido ponto nigral degeneration, an extremely rare neurological disorder, Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. She was 55.

Mrs. Lobdell-Ramirez was born to Delbert and Dorothy (Richardson) Lobdell on July 27, 1957, in Davenport, Iowa. She graduated from Muscatine High School in Muscatine, Iowa, in 1975.

She had lived in the Durango area for more than 25 years. Among other jobs, Mrs. Lobdell-Ramirez sold Avon products and worked as an elementary school librarian.

Her family said her husband taught her how to prepare great Mexican food. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting and listening to country music.

“To know her was to love her,” her family said. “Her proudest moment in life was the day her son was born. He was the center of her world and love of her life.”

Mrs. Lobdell-Ramirez was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Ramirez.

She is survived by her 16-year-old son, Dale Ramirez, of Durango; stepchildren Gene Ramirez of Durango and Cassie Ramirez of Texas; brothers Mike Lobdell and Jeff Lobdell, both of Muscatine; sister, Michelle Hopp, of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private burial service will be held at a later date at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
