Mailbox destruction burdens disabled vets
To the reckless driver who lost control of his or her vehicle around noon on Nov. 14 speeding down the hill in the 1900 block of County Road 228: Shame on you for leaving the scene after you hit and demolished three mailboxes, their posts and a Durango Herald newspaper post and box.
Four senior citizens on fixed incomes (two of whom are disabled veterans, another also disabled and one a widow) now have the added expense of having to purchase and pay to erect new posts and boxes in order to receive their mail. You probably have significant damage to your vehicle and carry insurance, but we four must bear the unnecessary expense because of your negligence. You are lucky that one of us wasn’t at our mailbox collecting mail or a newspaper when you lost control.
You are obviously an irresponsible coward.
