Paul L. Windmueller

Durango resident Paul L. Windmueller died of a coronary event Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, in Durango. He was 63.

Mr. Windmueller was born to Paul and Juanita Windmueller on Feb. 23, 1949, in St. Louis. He grew up in St. Louis and completed his high school education there. He went on to graduate from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo., with a bachelor’s degree in social psychology.

On Dec. 5, 1970, he married Margaret “Maggie” Janssen in Kansas City, Mo. They met in college, and they were married before his graduation.

The Windmuellers owned and operated the Buffalo Bar in Idaho Springs. Mr. Windmueller went on to work for Premier Distributing, an Anheuser-Busch distributor, in the hospitality industry in Albuquerque for 17 years.

The couple moved to Durango in 1998, purchasing and operating the Logwood Bed and Breakfast. They opened Beau Jo’s Mountain Bistro, which is now Iron Horse Pizza, in 2004 in Durango.

Mr. Windmueller was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. He loved working and his family, his family said. He enjoyed daily walks with his wife and the family dog, Scoobie. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a fan of the Denver Broncos and St. Louis Cardinals.

Mr. Windmueller is survived by his wife of 42 years, Maggie Windmueller, of Durango; children: Ron Windmueller of Erie and Amy Windmueller of San Francisco; sister, Nancy Kircher, of Richmond, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at St. Columba Catholic Church, 1830 East Second Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, also at St. Columba. The Rev. James Koenigsfeld will be the celebrant.
