Darline Hiroko Dee Hanes
Former Ignacio-area resident Darline Hiroko Hanes died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in Boulder City, Nev. She was 80.
Known as “Dee,” she was born to James and Sadaka Kozai Tochihara on Feb. 2, 1932, in Las Animas.
On June 23, 1953, she married Harold “Hal” Hanes in Denver.
After living in Illinois for a time, the couple moved back to Denver in the late 1960s.
Upon moving to Ignacio in about 1975, Mrs. Hanes worked for Redfield Gunsight Co. in Bodo Park as a quality control inspector. After Redfield moved, she went to work at Tamarron Resort, where she worked in housekeeping, eventually becoming manager of the department.
Mr. and Mrs. Hanes moved to Boulder City about eight years ago.
Mrs. Hanes enjoyed bowling and often spoke of her “bowling buddies” from tournaments, her family said.
“A Broncos fan, she watched ‘them Broncos’ whenever they were on TV,” her family said. “On the last game televised in Nevada before she passed away, when they were losing, her comment was, “What’s new?”
Mrs. Hanes was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hal Hanes.
She is survived by her son, Mark Hanes, of Boulder City; four granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren.
Cremation has occurred. A private memorial service will be held this summer. Her ashes will be spread at the canyon on the property where she and her husband lived in Ignacio.
