DENVER Rep. Mike McLachlan, D-Durango, had his first bill signed into law Wednesday.

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed House Bill 1076, which allows the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to hire senior managers who are not certified peace officers in Colorado.

The previous law excluded out-of-state applicants from consideration for a top job at the CBI.

McLachlan said he was happy to be a part of what he called a good-government bill.

I think its going to strengthen the CBI and make the CBI a more effective organization, he said.
