Danna Gnazzo Laverty
Pagosa Springs resident Danna Gnazzo Laverty died of cancer Monday, March 4, 2013, at her home. She was 54.
Mrs. Laverty was born to Daniel John and Maxine Gnazzo on Jan. 26, 1959, in Minnesota. In 1963, her family moved to Aurora. She participated in sports, including track and volleyball. In the fifth grade, she set a record in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet 11 inches.
Mrs. Laverty graduated with the charter Class of 1977 from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora. She went on to graduate from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Adams State College with a master’s degree in family counseling and social work.
After graduation, she moved to Fort Collins and worked as a sheriff’s deputy. She moved to Pagosa Springs in 1984.
On March 19, 1988, she married Kurt Laverty in Pagosa Springs.
She stayed at home to home-school all six of her kids for more than 20 years. She was an active member of the local home-school group.
“Her greatest joys in life were found in her children, and she pushed them all to live their passions and dreams,” her family said. “She supported them in many of their international missions trips, sports ventures, drama and singing ventures and was always their biggest fan.”
From her earliest years, when Mrs. Laverty was confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Aurora, she was active in church activities.
“She had a passion for mission work and the local church, Restoration Fellowship, that she was a part of,” her family said. “Danna loved the Lord, and shared her faith and passion with everyone that she met. Her faith was strong, and she believed in the goodness of God and his faithfulness.”
One of Mrs. Laverty’s lifelong passions was fishing.
Mrs. Laverty was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Grace Laverty.
She is survived by her husband of almost 25 years, Kurt Laverty, of Pagosa Springs; children Benellen Laverty, Allison Laverty, Mason Laverty, Johannah Laverty, Jesse Laverty and Caleb Laverty, all of Pagosa Springs; mother, Maxine Gnazzo, of Edina, Minn.; brothers Paul Gnazzo of Aurora and John Gnazzo of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 11, 2013, at Restoration Fellowship Church.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been created to support missionary and ministry organizations she supported. Checks may be sent to the Restoration Fellowship Church, 264 Village Drive, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147, with “Danna Laverty” in the memo line.
