| Cortez man freezes in park Passerby finds Scott dead at Parque de Vida

A homeless man who was a longtime Cortez resident was discovered dead at a Parque de Vida gazebo late Friday morning.
City Police Chief Roy Lane said a passerby found the body of Herman Scott about 11:30 a.m. Friday lying on the ground in the gazebo, which is a few dozen feet west of the Cortez Recreation Center.
"The body was pretty hard to see unless you were right by the gazebo," Lane said.
An autopsy report conducted on Scott's body Friday afternoon determined he died of hypothermia, said the police chief.
Montezuma County Coroner Charlie Rosenbaugh said Scott was 52-years old, and the time of death was likely late Thursday night or early Friday morning.
No evidence of foul play was found at the site where Scott's body was discovered, according to Lane. Since the cause of death was determined to be hypothermia, the police investigation has concluded and foul play was ruled out, he said.
