• Guns and roses, Part I

OK, there is no Axl Rose in this commentary but there is a lot about guns.

• Skepticism

At a recent writing class, we were asked to identify ourselves with a one-word description and explain why we used that term. Many of the participants used terms like "peaceful," "harmonious" or "balanced" - terms that indicated a person with a surpassingly transcendent understanding of the universe.

• Reality

I had an interesting exchange recently. It was at an "End of the World" party and liquor flowed freely. And as alcohol is wont to do, tongues were loosened and lo and behold, philosophers were created out of whole cloth!

• Taxmageddon for all

After the response to my last column, I think it only fair to warn those readers who experienced those violent reactions that this one will contain more "lies from a dishonorable man." Propaganda — according to Websters Encyclopedic Dictionary of the English Language there are at least three parts to this activity.
1) Information, rumors, etc., deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.
2) Deliberate spreading of such information, rumors, etc.

It’s been about 48 hours since the presidential election was decided. My first reaction was disbelief based on my knowledge of Obama’s first term. I was not the only center-right voter that was bowled over by the results. Depression rapidly followed the shock and disbelief. But eventually I conquered my dark mood and began dissecting...

• Getting away with murder in Benghazi

I suspect only a few Montezumans had even heard of Benghazi, Libya, before the Islamic Jihadist terrorists murdered four Americans and sodomized our ambassador. But now that it has become a household word, let’s examine the facts and hopefully everyone will be as outraged and sickened as me.

• Republican National Convention 2012

I will admit to having been less than enthusiastic about Mitt Romney as the Republican choice for the Presidential candidate. My spirits were lifted somewhat by the Paul Ryan VP pick. But then I was buoyed by the Sarah Palin choice in 2008. However, I still held my nose voting for McCain as I have been forced to do in many of the Republican runs.

• Months away from a socialist utopia

Look up in the sky — it’s a bird, it’s a penalty ... no ... no ... it’s Obamatax!

• Pay now or pay later

As I write this, Mitt Romney has amassed enough delegates to be declared the Republican nominee for president. While there is happiness in the Republican world, I am not rejoicing. There is no doubt that conservatives and Republicans see Romney as the fiscal and social anti-Obama. I don’t see any light at the end of this long and dark tunnel.
